Still life workshop: Strawberries & soft fruit | Saturday 8th March 2025
Still life: Strawberries & soft fruit
Half day workshop
Saturday 8th March 2025
10am - 1pm
In this workshop we will focus on strawberries and other soft fruit discussing different textures and colour. I will be demonstrating using oil paint but you are welcome to paint with acrylic paint if you prefer.
This course is suitable for all levels from beginners to those with more painting experience.
There will be two short demonstrations during the session which I will keep short to allow you plenty of time to work on a painting. For those new to painting, I will provide extra support after the initial demonstration to help you set up your palette and get started. As it is a small group, there will be plenty of opportunity for questions and individual support while you are working independently.
Approach
I will start with a short demonstration introducing the subject and how I would approach it. Mid way through I will provide another short demonstration to discuss building up and finishing a painting. It is a short session so demonstrations will be limited to 15-20 minutes each in order that you have plenty of time to work on your own painting.
You will have the option to work from life or from a high quality reference photo. I will often set up a few scenes for those who prefer to work from life but you are also welcome to build your own composition using the objects provided.
Note: The painting included in the photos is an example image and may be different to the one we work from during the workshop.
The sessions are small with a maximum of 6 people so there is plenty of opportunity for individual support, questions and discussion throughout the day.
During the workshop we will cover:
Initial drawing & key considerations for the subject
Getting started with paint and building up colour
Colour mixing of lights and darks in relation to the subject
The role of neutral colours in a painting
Finishing touches and knowing when to stop
Practicalities
The workshop will be held at my home studio (Ascot SL5)
Tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided during the workshop
Please bring an apron to work in and I would recommend not wearing your best clothes!
Materials
For those happy to provide their own materials, I can share a suggested material list. Please get in touch if you would like to see this before signing up
For an extra charge I am able to provide oil paint materials to use during the session. This would include an 8”x10” canvas to paint on and take away with you at the end of the session. You will also be given the use of brushes, palette, solvent and high quality professional oil paints to use during the session (but not to take home I’m afraid)
